Well now, I'm nearly halfway through the first draft of the FIFTH Ellie Quin book! For those of you who are TimeRiders fans and don't know very much about this series...how can I describe it?
Well, it's about a girl in the far, far future who thinks she's the most boring person in the universe. She lives on a remote dusty planet in a remote oxygen farm with her family. What Ellie doesn't know is that encoded into her DNA is something that will transform ALL of Human Space. Pretty soon she finds herself on the run with some bad guys chasing after her.
It's a roller-coaster of a thriller through a colourful and exciting universe. One of the best bits about the series, for me, is the universe itself; it's chock full of fun ideas. Let's see, for example...in this universe, all the teenaged girls wear this nail varnish, that when it dries...they can watch TV on their fingers, a different channel on each finger!
There's loads of stuff like that, plus a brutal bad guy working for the authorities, his autistic sidekick, a group of religious nutters who believe Ellie is the 'final prophet'...genetically engineered pets, talking chimpanzees, plants with bad attitudes, neon-coloured fashion and Ellie's best friend and guardian, Jez...whom I'd never want to pick a fight with.
Books 4 & 5 see Ellie marooned on a mothballed theme park where the rich would have spent (very expensive) vacations in mile-wide biodomes 'decorated' to their specification (Jungle Temple? No probs. Fantasy Castle? Easy-Peasy. Roman Ampitheater? Consider it done)...populated by genetically engineered creatures and characters. For those of you old enough to have seen the film WestWorld, you'll know what I mean.
I'm having insane fun writing this part of her adventure! Seriously...imagine what YOU would do with your own biome? huh? Aweseom fun. Anyway if you want a bit more detail on the series here's a link to a website interview I gave some time back. Link
FYI...book 5 should be coming out in eBook on Amazon at the end of February. If you're intrigued enough to give it a go. The first four books are here
Have a look and see what you think. Right...back to 'Biome 2', where an army of psychotic gummy bears are tearing into people!!!!
