Karl Gesso is officially the first person to complete ZOMBIE LAST STANDS, find the easter egg, and contact me via this website. So I thought I'd do an interview with him. (Karl's from Latvia by the way, so this was a an email exchange/q&a)
Alex: First of all, Karl....congratulations for completing the game and finding that 'secret' I placed there at the end.
Karl: Thank you. It was very much fun and the easter egg was a big surprise.
Alex: I love throwing in hidden easter eggs. Especially towards the end. I love rewarding people who stick with something. Did you know anything about TimeRiders before you picked up ZLS (zombie last stands)
Karl: Not really. I was aware with the name. I think it is available in English here only. I did not know the game maker was also a writer!
Alex: How did you come across the game in the first place?
Karl: I was looking for zombie apps and did a store search.
Alex: What games do you normally play and what do you play it on?
Karl: Strategy games like Clash of Clans, Boom Beach. Game of War. But these can get repetitive and can be too slow too play. There is not really many good strategy games with zombies. I also like military histories so zombie last stand was a perfect match from my interests. My phone is an iPhone 5.
Alex: Did you download the free version first?
Karl: Yes. Then after playing some levels I got the paid version. I like that it was one purchase and does not require in-app purchases to complete.
Alex: Any negative feedback/bugs/balancing issues?
Karl: At first I found it a bit different to other games. I thought it was going to be a TD game. (Tower Defence). But it was not. It was more like zombie mode in in COD Black Ops. (Call of Duty). I REALLY like the story in the cutscenes. The characters were very fun and I actually got to like them a lot. I found the game very challenge towards the end, but this is normal for games. I had one game crash on a level near the end, but luckily your game has an auto-save so it was not a big problem. I would like to have more than one game-save slot. And the game also needs social-media features so you can post your score on Facebook or Twitter something.
Alex: What's your favourite aspect of the game?
Karl: I like the management of troops and defences. I upgraded my men to make specialist troops. 'engineers' for fixing the barricades. 'combat' experts for holding areas that didn't have barricades. I like the fatigue management. your men get tired and needing resting so you rotate them in shifts some sleeping while some fighting. I like how ignore money is so important. So you try and do things as economical as possible. I liked how you got so many zombies on the screen at the same time. It felt like hundreds at times and really tense! I also like the graphic style. Will there be more episodes of this game?
Alex: I'm planning on doing all the famous last stands: StalingGrad (Nazis Vs Zs), Gettysburg (Union troops vs confederate Zs), Thermopylae (Spartans Vs Persian Zs) etc etc.
Karl: Perfect! I will also play those.
Alex: And what about that easter egg at the end? Did it encourage you to give TimeRiders a go?
Karl: I will definiinitely read your TimeRider books now! I think (edited out - Alex) this is not in the books?
Alex: No :) Karl. Once again, congratulations for being the FIRST PERSON IN THE WORLD to finish the game and find that 'little thing' at the end. And do please come along to my forum/website once you start reading the books, I'd love to see what you make of the series.
